Bullet Well-Child Care
Bullet When Your Child Is Sick

Well-Child Care
For newborns, we recommend a series of regular visits beginning at two weeks of age, continuing every couple of months throughout the first year. During this crucial first year, we will evaluate your child's growth and development and perform a complete physical exam, noting and reviewing any problems. Required immunizations will be administered and recorded. Older children often need an exam every year or two as required by day care, school, sports programs or camps.

At every well-child visit, in addition to a physical exam and the needed immunizations, we will review various issues such as feeding, nightwaking, bedwetting, discipline, preventing falls, poison control and accident prevention. We encourage you to bring a list of concerns; we will allow time to talk about them.

Our staff is trained to deal with the development, special problems and diseases of children. Additionally, we have written material dealing with most common health problems.

When Your Child Is Sick
You may call our office and discuss your child's illness with one of us or with one of our nurses, or simply make an appointment to be seen. Please check your child's temperature (a glass or digital thermometer used rectally gives the best recording) before calling, and call as early in the day as possible. Before 8:30 a.m. and over the noon hour, you will hear a recorded message. After it is finished, you may:

  • leave a message on the voice mail, and we will return your call after 9:00 a.m. or after 1:30 p.m. or
  • wait until the operator comes on line and ask her to contact us immediately.

Mansfield Pediatrics nurseIf you call about an emergency, one of us or one of our nurses will talk to you immediately. For less urgent messages, we will return your call as soon as possible. Calls requesting information are often returned at noon and after office hours.

We encourage you to call our office if you have a problem or question.

If you need a prescription refilled, please give our staff the name and dose of the medicine and the telephone number of your pharmacist. Please allow 72 hours for us to contact your pharmacist.
